On any clear night a man may stand beneath the open sky and see thousands of distant stars burning in silence above him. For ages we believed those lights were distant fires without worlds. Modern astronomy now shows that many of those stars are surrounded by planets — countless worlds moving quietly through the dark.
Elements required for life are found across space. Organic molecules form naturally. Time is vast. If nature produced life on Earth, it becomes difficult to argue that it failed everywhere else. The greater mystery may not be that life exists elsewhere — but that we have not yet confirmed it.
Why the silence? Distances are immense. Signals weaken. Civilizations may rise and vanish before their traces reach us. Others may be quiet by choice, or communicate in ways we do not yet measure. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence — it may be a measure of our methods.
